GMercyU Launches 4+2 Counseling Program
Gwynedd Mercy University’s Psychology program is proud to offer its students a head start on a Counseling master’s degree, saving them time and up to $9,000 in graduate tuition.
Launched for the 2024-25 academic year, the 4+2 Early Entry to GMercyU’s MS in Counseling Program enables Psychology majors to take up to 12 credits of graduate courses during their senior year.
“We are very excited to partner with the GMercyU Master of Science in Counseling Program to offer our Psychology majors the opportunity to start progress towards their master's degree while still in the senior year of their undergraduate education,” said Rebecca Gullan, PhD, Psychology Professor and Program Coordinator.
“Faculty in both programs work closely with each other and our students to ensure a smooth transition from their undergraduate to graduate education, as the priority for all of us is that our students' have the opportunities and support for a lifetime of success," she added.
Careers in Mental Health
Many Psychology majors launch their careers immediately after graduation in a number of professions ranging from behavioral health technicians to human resource specialists. In fact, this past year, 55% of GMercyU’s Psychology majors completing an internship at a clinical site were offered a paid position from their site upon graduation. Of these, 66% accepted the position.
However, other students decide to pursue GMercyU’s Counseling master’s degree after graduation to focus on becoming a licensed clinical mental health counselor or a school counselor. Concentrations for both options are offered through GMercyU's Master's in Counseling program.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the predicted job growth for mental health counselors through 2033 is nearly five times the national average, due to an increase in the number of people (including youths) with mental health and behavioral disorders, as well as those with addictions.
